Tips
(courtesy
of The Golf School):
Curing
the slice.
A slice is a shot that curves dramatically left to
right, making accuracy difficult and robbing the player
of valuable distance. The slice is caused by the clubface
being open when it strikes the ball. The path of the
clubhead in the slice shot is outside-in. Many things
can cause a slice, and finding a cure depends on good
detective work. Here are some tips to consider:
Tip #1: Check your grip.
When you hold the club with the butting pointing at
your belt buckle, the V’s formed by the thumbs and
forefingers of both hands should point to your right
shoulder (opposite for lefties).
The handle of the club should be more in the fingers
of the left hand than in the palm. This grip will
allow the clubface to be square to the target when
it strikes the ball. Grip pressure should be medium-soft.
You should hold the club with enough pressure to control
it, yet softly enough to fee the weight of the clubhead.
A great grip is the single most important element
in straightening out shots and putting you on the
road to good golf.
Tip #2: Watch your swing.
In a good golf swing, the toe of the club is up when
the club is waist-high as you swing into your follow-through.
This position of the clubhead is a product of the
normal rotation of the clubhead and is produced by
having a good functional grip and medium-soft grip
pressure. |
