Stratton Pond Trail
Location:
North
Side of Kelley Stand Road approximately 1.8 miles west
of the Grout Pond Access Road.

Trail
description:
A
moderate uphill walk for 1.7 miles to a flat hilltop,
then a gentle descent of 2.2 miles to Stratton Pond.
A delightful trail loops the pond with vistas of the
pond and Stratton Mountain.
Points
of interest:
A
small bog at the west end of the pond can be viewed
and traversed by a series of bridges on the pond loop
trail. Amoderate trail (0.5 miles) leads down to the
Winhall River and the Lye Brook Wilderness Area.

Grout Pond Trail
Location:
South
side of Kelly Stand Road approximately 6.3 miles west
of junction with Route 100 in Wardsboro. South on Grout
Pond Access Road 1.3 miles to Pond.

description:
Several
gentle sloping trails loop around Grout Pond and two
more trails head south to Somerset Reservoir

of interest:
Trails
provide many vistas of the pond and quiet places for
picnicking or camping

Stratton Mountain Trail
Location:
North
Side of Kelley Stand Road approximately 0.5 miles west
of of the Grout Pond Access Road.

hours round trip; 3.3 miles to the summit.
Trail
description:
A
gentle to moderate uphill walk for 1 mile. Slopes
ten increase and walking becomes moderate to difficult
to the summit.
Points
of interest:
Trail
difficulty is amply rewarded by vistas of Mt Snow
to the south and a panoramic view of southern Vermont
from the summit. A climb up the old fire tower at
the summit adds to the fun.

Somerset - East Branch Trail
Location:
Approximately
5.8 miles west of the junction of Route 9 and 100, turn
north at the sign to the Somerset Reservoir. Follow
the dirt road approximately 2 miles north to East Branch
trail head Rating:

hours roundtrip; 5 miles to the reservoir
Trail
description:
After
crossing the West Branch of the Deerfield River on
a suspension bridge the trail follows an old railroad
bed north, crossing several streams. The trail terminates
at the Somerset Reservoir Road just below the east
end of the dam. Travel east 0.3 miles to the dam.
Points
of interest:
The
quiet observer might be rewarded by sightings of the
varied birdlife and wildlife in the beaver ponds alongf
the trail and will enjoy the vistas of Mt. Snow. At
the northern end the trail passes and old mill foundation
just to the east of the trail.

Haystack Mountain Trail
Location:
From
Rt 9 turn north into the Chimney Hill development on
Haystack Road. Turn left onto Chimney Hill Road and
then right onto Binney Brook Road. Continue up a steep
winding road (2.7 miles) to trailhead marked with U.S.F.S.
sign. Rating:
Moderate
to difficult

description:
Trail
follws an old road up a moderate slope approximately
0.8 miles, then bears left up a steep slope for 0.6
miles to the summit.
Points
of interest:
Excellent
views of Massachusetts to the south, and Haystack
Pond and Mt. Snow to the north.

Dover Town Forest Trail
Location:
tFrom
the center of West Dover take the Valley View Rd to
Cooper Hill Rd. Just before the Cooper Hill Inn turn
onto Rice Hill Rd. At the end of the road is a large
white house on the left; past the house on the left
is a small parking lot on the Dover Town Forest land.

Trail
description:
A
well maintained trail follows an old roadbed up and
down the Dover hills along a ridge to the Rock River.
Points
of interest:
Impressive
views of Mt Snow and Haystack Mtn to the west and
East Dover and South Newfane to the east. At some
points one can see 75 miles to the east. A waterfall
is visible to the right of the trail where the Rock
River begins its descent to East Dover.

Location:
The
south side of Route 9; 11 miles east of Bennington and
3.2 miles west of Vermont Route 8.

wooded trail through the park with views of Adams
Reservoir.
Points
of interest:
Picnicking,
swimming, boating. Small fee.

South
side of Route 9 approximately 3-1/2 miles east of Wilmington

to moderate.

gentle loop trail climbs steadily to the 2,415 foot
summit of Mt. Olga

A
fire tower at the summit provides a panoramic view.
